Chapter One::
My older brother, Rylan, walked into our apartment. He was dressed in his normal work attire; grey jeans, a white button up shirt, and a tan jacket. I knew he had just gotten off work, seeing as he looked tired from being at his office all day. I tried to ignore him and watch television, even though the show on didn't really interest me. He sat down beside me on the couch, after tossing some of his girlfriend's clothes in the floor, and brushed some of his light brown hair out of his blue eyes.
"You should clean up around here." Rylan said as he untied his black Converse High Tops and placed them under the coffee table so they would be out of the way. I glanced around our living room. Random clothes belonging to both him and his girlfriend were strewn around; empty coke cans, cups, and other dishes were piled on the tables; DVD cases and game cases were pulled off the shelves and scattered in front of the television; and blankets and pillows were carelessly tossed onto the chair beside the couch. I raised my eyebrow at my brother. He wants me to clean up his girlfriend's and his friends mess? No. I only clean up after myself.
"I do clean up. I clean the messes I make. Get your friends to clean up their mess." I said before standing up and walking behind the couch into the kitchen to fix myself a glass of sweet tea. Rylan stood up, following me, "Don't get an attitude with me. Just clean the damn apartment."
"I'm not your slave, Rylan, I'm your sister. And I would like it if you treated me like one." I said loudly, trying not to yell at him. I don't want to lose my temper. The truth is, Rylan changed after our parents died. Before they died we were really close siblings. I would stay over here with him on weekends to get out of the clutches of my abusive and alcoholic father. My mother was also an alcoholic, but she drank to cope with my father abusing her. When they died in a car accident and I moved in with Rylan, he had just began dating his girlfriend, Bailey.
Bailey seems like a normal girl when you first see her (apart from the fact she looks like some supermodel from France or Russia or somewhere), so that's why no one ever takes a moment to really study her. She kept her long dark brown hair styled nicely and wore fancy clothes that showed off her body. I can't help but be a protective little sister and think she's seducing my brother with her body, just to get money out of him, especially with the evil look that tends to stay in her gorgeous dark green eyes. There was just something odd about her as well as her friends.
The apartment door opened and I figured it was Bailey. But to my surprise it was Micah, one of my brother's new friends. Micah was actually fairly attractive, like the rest of his friends, with long black hair and beautiful grey eyes. Micah knew I thought he was attractive, and he liked to mess with me about it - in a way he shouldn't. He's twenty-one, a year younger than my brother, I'm seventeen, so he can't do sexual things with me like he wants to because Rylan had threatened him one night. But he likes to tease me like a boyfriend would his girlfriend and vice versa. Micah smirked at me, "It seems like someone's on that time of the month."
"Yeah, this jackass my brother has turned into." I snapped before picking up my glass of tea and heading towards my room. A hand gripped my shoulder tightly before swinging me around. I was met by the angry face of my brother. He was always such a laid back kind of person. He's changed so much since he's been dating Bailey. Maybe he's on drugs. I felt like coiling up in a ball at the angry glare Rylan was giving me, "Watch your mouth young lady!"
"You're not Dad, so quit acting like a jerk!" I yelled at him and pulled my arm from his grip. I ran to my room, slammed my door, and locked it so no one could bother me. I heard Rylan yell something after me, but I didn't hear what he said. I leaned against my door and blinked my eyes as warm tears tried to form. What's gotten into Rylan? He's never laid a hand on me before, or anyone else for that matter. He has to be on drugs. It's his new friends and Bailey that's changed him into this. I'm afraid he's too far for me to try to save him.
